About this event

Explore the atmospheric ruins of Kirkstall Abbey, one of the best‑preserved Cistercian monasteries in Britain. Set alongside the River Aire, the Abbey offers a blend of medieval architecture and natural beauty which hint at centuries of monastic life. We'll take a walk through the Abbey (which is a Give What You Can heritage site, suggested donation £5), I'm planning this will be a guided tour run by volunteers. Along the way we’ll uncover stories of the monks who lived, worked, and prayed at the site, and see how the Abbey’s fortunes rose and fell. We’ll finish with a short amble through the park, taking in views of the Abbey from different angles before returning to the visitor area. There’ll be time at the end for an optional trip to a nearby café for anyone who fancies rounding off the walk with something warm and restorative.Dogs: Well-behaved dogs are very welcome, but must remain on a lead in the Abbey grounds. If the event is fully booked: Please join the waiting list as people frequently drop out during the week before an event, and you are likely to get a place on the walk. If this is your first OutdoorLads event: If this is your first event, we’ll make sure you feel welcomed. Please check out the My First Event page, and don’t hesitate to drop me a message if you have questions or want to know more about this walk.Image / photo credits:  All leader's own images - with permission for OutdoorLads to use.
