How we verify

1. Step 1

   Straight from official registers

   We pull data from the Charity Commission (England & Wales), OSCR (Scotland), the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland and Companies House — official, publicly accountable sources — and add what organisations publish about themselves on their own websites.

2. Step 2

   Deduplication

   When the same organisation appears in more than one source, we match the records and merge them into one listing, so you don't see duplicates.

3. Step 3

   Automated checks, human judgement

   Automation does the repetitive work — matching registers, spotting duplicates, and screening every organisation for whether it genuinely serves LGBTQIA+ people. Clear-cut listings can publish automatically; anything uncertain waits for a person, and we keep reviewing listings after they're live rather than checking once and forgetting.

4. Step 4

   Visible verification dates

   Every listing shows the date it was last checked, so you can judge how current the information is at a glance.

This directory is a signposting tool: it tells you an organisation exists and points you towards it, but the decision is still yours, and it's worth checking a listing feels right before you get in touch. Found something wrong, or a listing that isn't what it claims to be? Suggest an edit or report a problem and we'll take a look.

We re-sync against official registers on a regular cycle, and every listing records the date it was last checked, so you always know how current it is. That freshness is automated; the rules for what belongs here are set by people, and the judgement calls are made by people.
