About this event

For those of you who enjoy your weekly parkrun fix, we'll be heading to Blackpool parkrun before the Gay Illuminations Day Stroll and Blackpool Illuminations Social later the same day. If you've not heard of it, parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k event that takes place every Saturday at locations across the world. We will meet at 8.45am by the parkrun sign for a group photo. I'll be wearing a red parkrun t-shirt, and you're welcome to wear any OutdoorLads merchandise. You can register for parkrun and get your own barcode from www.parkrun.org.uk to scan at the end of your run to record your finish time if you wish. However, you do not need to do this to take part in the run if you don't want to.Course description: The course is 5k long, run on tarmac, gravel and trail paths. It’s an almost two lap, anti-clockwise course that is mainly flat. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. The course starts on the tarmac path south of the clock tower between the netball courts and all weather football pitches. The actual start is parallel to the middle of three floodlights on the left. After the start the route takes the first path on the left. It then turns left adjacent to a black bin and passes by the BMX track which will be on your right. Follow the path towards the model village before exiting the park to turn left along the footpath of East Park Drive. At the next entrance to the park we re-enter the park and make an immediate right turn onto the woodland trail which is twisty and in places narrow. We follow the lakeside shore for a while before making a right and left turn to take us away from the shore. Eventually the route re-joins the network of tarmac paths. Take the second path on the right and heads towards the crazy golf course. The course turns left here and makes a short descent to follow the Lakeside Promenade towards the bandstand. The route goes left across the front of the bandstand and up the gravel slope on the right. Here it continues around on the first path to the right. When you catch sight of the rose garden on your left take the sharp turn to the left then turn sharp right to follow the right hand outer path of the rose garden with tennis courts on your right. At the pavillion turn right towards the clock tower. At the clock tower turn left and cross the start line to commence the second lap which is the same as the first lap until you reach the rose garden for the second time. To finish you follow the centre path in the rose garden. The course ends in-between the first two bushes in the garden. On occasion parkruns can be cancelled due to the weather or lack of volunteers. Should this happen I will try to contact members as soon as I can. Photos taken by OutdoorLads members who have given us permission to use them.
